Zenein market documentary

In line with the efforts exerted within the Cairo Safe City and Safe Public Spaces programme to create safe public spaces and empower women economically, and in partnership with the National Council for Women, Giza Governorate, and USAIDEgypt, this documentary sheds the light on the renovation of the Zenein Market through featuring the stories of some of the women working at the market. Zenein Market, located in Boulaq Al-Daqroor, was reopened officially in October 2019. It sets to be the first market in Egypt to be redesigned and upgraded using a participatory approach, and gender-responsive approach to creating a safe and empowering space for women vendors and customers, prioritizing women’s economic empowerment and the prevention of violence against women. Women vendors received financial literacy training to benefit their business, as well as awareness-raising sessions on various topics. Currently, efforts are exerted to provide women vendors with micro-loans and link them to a wholesale market to increase their profit.#UNWEgypt
