Heroines of Every Day

This comic book entitled “Heroines of Every Day” sheds the light on the different forms of violence against women in public spaces. The comic book has been developed in partnership with the National Council for Women within the framework of UN Women Egypt’s “Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces for Women and Girls”, with the generous support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Egypt and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.

The content of the comic book was formulated over the course of two training workshops that were attended by students from Alexandria University, artists, volunteers from UN Women partner NGOs and representatives from NCW Alexandria. The workshops focused on the different forms of VAW, how women face it, how it affects them and the whole community and how to actively stand against it. The discussions that took place during these workshops inspired the artists to develop the stories included in the comic book as part of their commitment to raise awareness about the issue through their art.

Through the “Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces for Women and Girls” program, comprehensive tools and approaches are being developed and implemented to prevent and respond to the different forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG) in public spaces in Alexandria and Damietta governorates. The programme aims to raise awareness on VAWG in public spaces in an interactive and creative way.
