Joint Press Release: The National Council for Women and UN Women Egypt launch a new phase of “Because I am a man” campaign

Cairo, 25 November 2021- The National Council for Women (NCW), in partnership with UN Women Egypt, have launched a new phase of the “Because I am a Man” campaign on social media. The new phase of the campaign sheds light on the essential role men must play in supporting women in the private and public spheres.

The campaign kicked off on Sunday, 21 November 2021, with interactive questions posted on social media platforms to initiate dialogue with the various online followers on the main topics of the campaign.

The first video of the campaign was released on Tuesday, highlighting the positive role that fathers play at home and how this role affects the development of their children’s perceptions and attitudes in the future. The second video of the campaign, which has been released today, focuses on the role of men, as peers, colleagues and managers at the workplace, in promoting an enabling and non-discriminatory work environment for women, which ensures success for all.

This campaign is implemented with the support of the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) and Global Affairs Canada (GAC).

It is worth noting that the first phase of the campaign was launched in 2017, with the aim of correcting the misperceptions around the role of men in achieving gender equality and empowering women. A number of public figures supported the campaign's first phase then, including the champion Egyptian Footballer Mohamed Salah, celebrated actor Dhafer El Abidine and renowned Egyptian rapper Zap Tharwat,
